Declutter Your Desk

It’s National Clean Off Your Desk Day – the perfect day to resolve to get that desk clutter under control, whether you’re in the office or working from home. We touch so many “public” surfaces on our way to work – door handles, elevator buttons, railings and more. Even when working at home, it’s good to routinely clean and disinfect our work stations – to protect against the flu, COVID-19 and other germs.

It’s a worthy goal, but how do you begin? We suggest starting by removing everything off the top of your desk. Yes, that includes moving your collection of water glasses and coffee mugs to the sink or dishwasher and throwing away any trash. Now that you can actually see what your desk looks like, it’s time to clean it.

  • Everything in its place. Find a home for the items you must keep and organize them.
  • Clean up. Grab your favorite cleaning product to get rid of dust, dirt, crumbs, and other unwelcome guests that have found a home under the piles of paper!
  • Get in the habit. Routinely clean your desk. This will make the task more manageable.
