It’s Handwashing Awareness Week

There’s a good reason why National Handwashing Awareness Week comes at the beginning of December. Of course, it’s because we’re heading into the heart of cold and flu season. As we spend more time indoors and around others who have colds, it becomes more likely that we’re exposed to the germs that can give us the sniffles or a full-blown sickness.

The simplest solution to avoid catching a cold (or worse) is to Wash Your Hands.

Take 5 and watch this quick tutorial on keeping cold and flu from spreading in your community. Then take action! Contact your favorite teacher or principal & ask them to help improve hand hygiene in your local school & community by participating in the Healthy Schools, Healthy People program.

Want to learn more? ACI offers handy tips for consumers on how and when to wash up – like after touching certain surfaces like doorknobs and money and what you can do when soap isn’t available.  There also are tools for educators, including a webinar, infographics, and fun coloring sheets for kids that encourage this healthy habit, among other resources.

To have a Clean and Happy Winter…Remember to Wash Your Hands!
